Let me put this out there: I am obsessed with skin care. I come from a history of really bad skin. I mean, seriously, I was a pimple with a face in my teen years. This spell of bad skin spilled over to my 20s and into my 30s, till I found the skin care center that knew how to handle my problems.
As a makeup artist, I really have to set an example. I always say good skin is the best canvas and I have to live up to that, don’t I? I try my best to keep my oily skin in check and prevent breakouts.
I’ve been asked about what my skin regimen is like, so I thought I would share it with you guys. WARNING: It’s a bit tedious for some. I find it therapeutic though, and my skin isn’t complaining, so…
STEP 1: CLEANSE – MICELLAR WATER
I start off by taking off my makeup with Bioderma. I focus especially on my eye makeup and lips.
Bioderma is locally available at PCX.
STEP 2: CLEANSE (AGAIN) – CLEANSING OIL
I do a second round of cleansing with an oil. I massage a couple of pumps of oil into my face and neck, then emulsify it by massaging my skin with wet hands. Rinse.
Biore Cleansing Oil – Watson’s.
DHC Cleansing Oil – Japan. Ask a friend to buy for you.
Generic Olive and Jojoba Cleansing Oil – Tokyo Hands in Japan.
Try Muji’s Cleansing Oil too!
STEP 3: CLEANSE (YET AGAIN) – FACIAL WASH
The last step for cleansing is a facial wash. I foam up my face then use a konjac sponge with it. Rinse.
Shiseido Perfect Whip – Japanese drug stores. Bought this one at Don Quixote
Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Cleanser – Origins in SM Makati, Megamall and Mall of Asia.
Boscia Konjac Sponge – Sephora Singapore.
STEP 4: EXFOLIATE (1-2 TIMES A WEEK)
Once or twice a week, I use a light exfoliant to keep my skin dead-skin-cell free.
MAC Volcanic Ash Exfoliator – MAC stores and counters nationwide.
Cure Natural Aqua Gel – Beauty Bar.
STEP 5: TONE
There’s a toner for every skin type so find one that’s best for you. I just moved from Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid toner to MAC Lightful Softening Lotion.
MAC Lightful C Marine-Bright Formula Softening Lotion – MAC stores and counters nationwide.
STEPS 6 and 7: FACE SERUM, EYE SERUM
A serum is a lightweight moisturizer and penetrates deeper into your skin, and has loads of benefits.
I am PARANOID about eye wrinkling. I use Time In A Bottle, but I’m thinking on graduating to Miracle Worker now that I’m 41.
MAC Skin Brightening Serum – MAC counters and stores nationwide.
philosophy Time In A Bottle eye serum – SM Megamall Fashion Hall
STEP 8: MOISTURIZER
My favorite part. I love the way my skin drinks up all this moisture after a long day of working and wearing makeup. I use my entire hand and give myself a face rub. Two or three times a week, I use the Origins overnight mask.
K-Palette 50th Anniversary moisturizer – I won this in a contest. I hope it becomes available. It’s wonderful.
Origins DrinkUp Intensive Overnight Mask – Origins in SM Makati, Megamall and Mall of Asia.
STEP 9: EYE CREAM
I am trying out these samples. I hope they work!
philosophy Full of Promise for Eyes – philosophy in SM Megamall Fashion Hall
For the day, I do Cleanse. Tone and Moisturizer. I don’t use the same moisturizer for the daytime. For my oily skin, I like using a light gel moisturizer. My current favorite is this one:
MAC Mineralize Charged Water Moisture Gel – MAC counters and stores nationwide.
Then two to three times a week, I use this:
It gives your skin a kick and a glow. I especially love using it if I had been working till late the day before. It makes my skin wake up as if I had 12 hours of sleep.
Origins GinZing Refreshing Face Mask – Origins SM Megamall, Makati and Mall of Asia.
If I’m staying home or not wearing makeup that day, I put on a sunblock. My cushion foundation and BB cream has SPF, so that serves as my sun protection when I do put on makeup. As for my everyday makeup routine, well, that’s another story.
These are the products I’m currently using, but I change them after one bottle or container’s use. My skin always has a saturation point, so I have to cycle through products all the time.
What are your favorite skincare products? I would love to hear about them!
